First time at the Venice Biennale

In 1997 Estonia first participated at the Venice Biennale with its own pavillion that was selected by Estonian Cultural Endowment. Three artists - Raoul Kurvitz, Jaan Toomik and Siim-Tanel Annus - participated with performances at the streets near San Marco Palace.

Since 1999 Center for Contemporary Arts, Estonia acts as the comissioner of the pavilion.
