PRESSITEADE - Elin Kard, kuraatoritekst näitusele Hobusepea galeriis 03.05.–15.05.2006

Kolmapäeval, 03.05.2006 kell 17.00 avatakse Hobusepea galeriis TÕNIS SAADOJA (1980) isikunäitus "Mainstream".

Tõnis Saadoja avatav isikunäitus on pühendatud ühele pildile, täpsemalt öeldes kunstnik Gerhard Richteri portreele. Ka Saadoja 20-l erineval moel üht motiivi korrates maalitud portreede formaat 55 x 70 cm on laenatud vanameistrilt endalt, kes aastal 1973 esines Veneetsia Biennaalil teosega "48 portreed", kasutades ainesena entsüklopeedia fotosid 19. ja 20. sajandi suurkujudest.

Oleks ilmselt alatu öelda, et Saadoja, otsides lahendusi näituse idee parimaks teostuseks, on inspiratsiooni ammutanud Photoshopi erinevatest võimalustest. Eelkõige on näha pakutav meeldetuletus, et ei ole maalikunst midagi enamat kui käsitöö üks paljudest vormidest.

Tõnis Saadoja's personal exhibition is dedicated to the portrait of artist Gerhard Richter. The format of 55x70 cm of his paintings is repeating one single motif for twenty different times, this being borrowed by Richter himself whose 48 Portraits were exhibited in Venice Biennale in 1973. As his subject, Richter used the photographs of the great names of 19th and 20th century from encyclopaedias. It would not probably be fair to say that Saadoja has been inspired by the endless possibilities of Photoshop, in order to make the idea fully work. Above all, this exhibition aims at reminding us of the fact that the art of painting is nothing but a form of handicraft
